KL weekend tour

21.03.09 (Sat): a friend from Singapore visited us for a weekend trip in KL. ladies and gentlemen, this is your tour guide speaking... : p

food... it is none other than the chilli pan-mee at Kin Kin's. i was challenged to eat a spoonful of dried chilli for RM 50. it was not too bad. mind you, this is coming from a person who could hardly bear the taste of spicy food / chillies... hehe.

and we proceed to Batu Caves.

here is a poser...

KL tower not to be missed. : )

replacing steering cover column + control panel trim

08.03.09 (sunday): finally got myself into replacing some interior damages after some struggles. my motor insurance refused take my car in for repairs and compensate me for all damages and losses simply because i first had my car towed to my trusted mechanic whose workshop is not one of their panel workshops.

found a car spare part shop in Puchong and bought a new steering cover column and control panel trim. both cost me RM 25 each. only difference was the steering cover column was a genuine Proton part that did not cost much while the control panel trim was an OEM part that cost as much as the cover column... a control panel trim for any Proton Wira and Satria that comes with original paint / design from Proton would easily cost 10 times the OEM part. yes, no kidding, it is about RM 250 +- for the freaking panel in the middle (not even the whole set that wraps the upper part of the control panel). so i took the OEM part that only comes in black finishing and 2 decks.

here are photos that i have taken with my mobile phone. may be useful as pointers for some of you who are as unlucky as i was, and want to save a few Ringgits from getting replacements at a car accessories shop.

replacing the cover column was easy.
unwind the screws holding the broken cover column underneath the steering wheel.
place the new cover column from bottom to top and make sure there are no gaps in between the top and bottom cover columns.
tighten up the screws and this is done.

the control panel trim is rather more complicated because there are wires connected to the cigarette lighter and ashtray.
unwind all screws that hold the trim to the center of your car interior.
disconnected the wires.
label them if you have to, in case you forget where does each go to...
remove the damaged / original trim.

to remove the cigarette lighter from the original trim, twist the ring at the back of the cigarette lighter anti-clockwise.

and it is apart.

reverse the order and place the cigarette lighter to the new / replacement trim.
lock the ring by twisting it clockwise.

now for the ashtray, remove the metal clips that hold the tray onto the damaged / original trim.
follow the same position, place the ashtray onto the new / replacement trim.
place back the clips.

and they are now both transferred.

before you push the control panel trim back into the dashboard, re-attach back the wires to the ashtray. this is so you can test before tightening the trim. otherwise, you will have to go for a joyride. :p
they will be hard to miss or mix because each connector is different.
you just need to match the size of the female connector to the male connectors on the tray.

tadda!! trim re-attached and everything in place, except for the missing stereo and the silver coloured cup holder. will get that changed to a black one so it will be less obvious.

where were we?

a couple of months passed just like that without us realising where we left off... been extremely busy with work, fixing the damages of my car, daily stuff and fb.

dinner @ chalet suisse

was craving for some cheese fondue so persuaded my friend to pay Chalet Suisse a visit. but we ended up trying the bratwurst. lol! we had the chicken and veal bratwurst and curry bratwurst.

good food, cozy interior, good / friendly service - for the prices... yeah, they'd better be.

don't get me wrong, there is no affiliation or what so ever.

our babies - day 2

some photos of our babies on day 2 at my crib. eyes opened by this time. very mischievous fellas, i'd say. can't really tell their genders now based on the info we gathered online. will check again once their yolk sacs are gone.

anyway, we have decided on their names... 小雲 and 小吉. hahaha... names from a well-known Japanese manga and cartoon series, Dr. Slump / IQ 博士.

小雲 = Arale Norimaki (則巻アラレ)

小吉 = Gajira "Gatchan" Norimaki (則巻ガジラ)

: )

our babies - day 1

trying to clear some backlogs here... :p

something good did happen and helped cheer me up after the lost & found fiasco of my car though. been given 2 new babies after a visit to my friend's cousin's place. newborn tortoises. to keep me occupied from thinking about my ride i guess. these babies just hatched not long ago. really, this is the first time seeing newborn tortoises with the yolk sacs still on their bellies. interesting fact to know.

baby is home

01.02.09 (sun): my baby has been brought home from the workshop on 29.01.09. thanks to my "Car Doctor" (originally named as Dr. Kereta by another friend) a.k.a. "Honda Specialist", Baskaran - owner of Rapid Auto Marine Point workshop, baby started back up and internal wiring is re-connected.

things left to do now and probably the most expensive parts left to replace... my stereos and gear knob, plus the damaged plastic dashboard panels... sigh...

the way my lunar 2008 is ending... lost + found + damages

23.01.09 (sat): one more day before chinese new year. been quite a rough week and thought "tgif" yesterday. next thing i know, i'm crippled without a car today.

had to stay over at my friends last night. well it was about 2:00 am when i got there. parked my car outside her condo. mind you, at a proper parking lot, in the box! and locked. next thing i know in the afternoon, the box was empty. the feeling was like losing someone close. no i'm not joking. my car is not just a car to me. it was like a family member. served me well for the past 6 years and still going strong despite the usual hiccups, peeling paints and scratches.

had to calm my friend down while i pull myself back together. we looked and asked around to no avail, as expected. i guess it happened while everyone was asleep including the condo security guards who would not give a damn about what happens outside the condo. couldn't blame them. who would have thought some assholes would eye on my old car. even cracked a joke of how i used to tell my friend that i would have a valid good reason to change my car if it's stolen...we took my friend's car to head to the nearest police station in the neighbourhood. and suddenly life wasn't that shitty... found my car by the roadside right outside a mosque. yeah, a mosque. crime right outside a holy place. and yeah, wtf???didn't want touch my car in case there could be anything that led to other crimes. we continued heading to the police station. had my report done and was told to drive my car to meet the sergeant assigned to my case at the main police station of the suburb. went back to my car and when i looked carefully again, the keyhole on my door had the "key" subtracted from "keyhole". and my car wouldn't start even after disabling my immobiliser.

rang back the police station and was told to get to the main station first. finally got there after beating the traffic in the hot weather. met up with the sergeant after waiting for a while. a second report was then filed. sergeant then told me to wait for him at my car for pictures to be taken. and i can then get someone to tow the car to wherever i want to. if you're thinking of some CSI work, fat chance. pictures and done, off you go. well, anyway, i think i have heard enough horrid stories of recovered vehicles with some accessories intact and gone the minute they were allowed to be returned to their owners... heard but not sure how true so please do not take me as the source of these stories.

back to mine. the guess was, the bastard thieves or thief only wanted to take off with my car but could not drive it far because my immobiliser kicked in. so they had to leave my car by the roadside and took off with whatever they could. cd/mp3 player with one of my mp3 collection CD and speakers for as expected. even my gear knob (my farewell gift from a great team of ex-colleagues), a pair of sunglasses and two old pair of sandals which a pair was my friend's. fark!

oh, so that was the end of the police story. anyone wondering why there are more and more crimes here?

relief was - my oakley, other CDs, highway toll tag + card, coins, parking access card and remote, tripod, wheels and coin pouch were still around. stupid bastards didn't even notice i had a red packet with money inside. lucky for me because that was a small token of appreciation from the folks of the couples i did some photography for.

the other not so lucky part from the recovery was - most if not all wires have been yanked, my alarm controller box on my passenger seat (chances of re-using it is currently unknown), dashboard panel ripped apart for my stereos, my ignition starter ripped.

couple of more pictures i took with my camera phone...

can't trust the insurance panel because i'm not even sure if these are covered and i highly doubt so... can't get it to any other car accessories shop because most are closed now for the festive season, for at least a week. i had it towed to my regular workshop. car still couldn't start after my mechanic tried a couple of things to get it alive in order for me to drive it home and later for other repairs because i simply can't lock the doors now. :'(

so damn "lucky" right before chinese new year ya? and yeah, i'm screwed for the next week or two without a car because i'm not sure how can i get to work and client meetings... i know there is no point bitching about it. what happened had already happened. and like what my mum said, just be glad that i was unharmed because i wasn't there.

not the end of the world yet as there are more sufferings on the other side of earth. and i need to move forward but except for the fact that it is really painful with the repair and replacement costs... : (

i really do not want to take up a loan from anyone or anywhere and add on more debts. so yeah, if you have anything coming up that i can earn some fast cash legally and decently, would really appreciate it if you let me know.

and hope this is the end of my lunar 2008. may the 2009 year of ox bring you and i happier, healthier and more properous lives ahead.

Christmas + Singapore

07.01.09 (wed): been busy with work and meeting up with friends who i haven't seen for ages since i returned from holiday and another long weekend. hope everyone had a merry and safe christmas, and a joyful new year. my christmas was fun though tiring after all the walking. :p but it was worth it though. i haven't been a "tourist" in Singapore for some years now. let's not even talk about spending christmas there. this was the first and i owe it all to my friend who insisted that we have a short break there. we grabbed the opportunity as well to meet up with friends in Singapore.

here are some of my favourite shots.
